The EU officially announced the increase of SVHC list to 205

2020-12-17

SVHC (Substance of Very High Concern) is the substances that risk to humans and environment. Products containing SVHC need to fulfill the corresponding responsibilities and obligations. As the implementation of REACH progresses, ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) has published a list of multiple batches of SVHC which will be updated regularly for every six months. According to Article 57 of the REACH Regulation, substances that meet one or above of the following hazardous characteristics are identified as substances of high concern SVHC:

  • Category 1&2 - carcinogenic, teratogenic, reproductive toxic substances, CMR category I or category II substances.
  • Persistent, bio-accumulative and toxic substances are also known as PBT substances
  • Highly persistent, highly bio-accumulative substances, vPvB substances
  •  Substances that have endocrine disrupting heat, persistence, bio-accumulation and toxicity or high persistence, high bio-accumulation but not belong to the second or third items, and have scientific evidence that has a serious impact on humans or environment.
On June 25, 2020, the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) has released four substances with reproductive toxicity and one multi-hazard chemical substances into the SVHC list, which is also the addition of the 23nd batch. The four chemicals are
listed as below.
